Welcome to the official home of SCHOOLBOT 9000

SCHOOLBOT 9000 is a hilarious — and ominous — new graphic novel series about what happens when one school's human teachers are replaced by robots.

11-year-old James Gordon’s world is turned upside down when the school district replaces his beloved teachers with robots. While his teachers have always cared about his feelings and supported his art, these new Schoolbots only care about test scores. Plus, they've had some seriously unnerving glitches.

James is determined to fight back, but he’s going to need some help from a very unlikely ally in order to keep these robot teachers from taking over his school.

Middle school just got a little glitchy!

“Of course I’m not OK. How can I be OK? There are robots… everywhere. And now they’re coming to our school.”

James Gordon is already annoyed by the robots in his life — the drones that look like bugs, the dogbots at the park, his HomeBot babysitter, and now? He's just found out that a new teaching AI called SCHOOLBOT 9000 is replacing all of his favourite teachers.

Can James figure out a way to stop robots from taking over his school and save his teachers’ jobs?

In-person and online author visits

SCHOOLBOT 9000 is sparking important conversations among kids and parents about the value of holding on to human creativity and empathy in the age of AI. To invite me (and, if you like, my life-size Schoolbot cutout) to your school for a reading or workshop, fill out the form below.

For UK schools: I hold a clear Enhanced DBS check and am NSPCC child safeguarding awareness trained. I have school visit experience and references.

What People Are Saying

  • “The pupils all had a brilliant time when Sam visited and were fascinated to learn how an author goes about creating a book. Getting the chance to develop their own characters was a particular highlight for them all. There were lots of smiles throughout and one of the children said afterwards, ‘that was my favourite school visitor ever!’“

    — Andrew Vale-Taylor, Assistant Headteacher, Year 4 and Year 6 Teacher, Speldhurst Primary School, Kent

  • “We’ve been lucky enough to have Sam visit the shop twice. Her workshops were fun, thoughtful and friendly. The children loved making robots and their own cartoon strips. Sam also gave us good food for thought on the ethics of AI. Schoolbot 9000 has a place on our shelves!”
